Strep A
The Healgen Group A Streptococcus Rapid Test is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of the bacterial infection of the throat, “strep throat”, in human throat swabs. It is intended to be used as a screening test and as an aid in the diagnosis of infection.
Strep Throat is caused by the bacterial infection of group A Streptococcus bacteria, where Streptococcus pyogenes composes the majority of this group. Strep throat is highly contagious and is a common cause of sore throat in school-age children and teens. Common symptoms include fever, sore throat, inflammation of the tonsils, swollen lymph notes of the upper neck and white patches on the tonsils.
