The Healgen Hepatitis C Rapid Test is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of the viral liver disease, Hepatitis C, in human blood. It is intended to be used as a screening test and as an aid in the diagnosis of infection.
Hepatitis C is a viral liver disease that causes both acute and chronic illness, where it ranges from a mild infection that lasts weeks to a lifetime and possibly grave situation. Most common means of transmission are unsanitary needle injection and receiving contaminated blood by transfusion. Globally, an estimated 130-150 million people have chronic Hepatitis C, where ~500,000 perish each year from the complications it brings.
Antiviral pharmaceuticals have a high success rate of curing Hepatitis C. Currently, there is no vaccine for Hepatitis C.
