Hepatitis B Virus

The Healgen Hepatitis B Rapid Test is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of the viral liver disease, Hepatitis A, in human blood. It is intended to be used as a screening test and as an aid in the diagnosis of infection.

Hepatitis B is a viral infection of the liver, where it can cause acute or chronic disease. The virus is spread by coming into blood and bodily fluids of a contaminated person. Worldwide, an approximated 240 million people a chronically ill with Hepatitis B, which is defined by being Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Test (HBsAg) positive for 6+ months. An estimated 780,000 people die annually from the complications and damage that this disease causes to the liver.

Hepatitis B is a known occupational hazard for health workers, but can be prevented by vaccination.
