soluble Transferrin Receptor (sTfR) ELISA

DRG is presenting a new ELISA: soluble Transferrin Receptor (sTfR)

DRG is proudly announcing the launch of a new ELISA: soluble Transferrin Receptor (sTfR), EIA-5925!
This new ELISAs contributes to our goal to offer a broad ELISA-panel of diagnostic tools in iron metabolism.

About sTfR:

The transferrin receptor (TfR) is a glycoprotein localized primarily on erythroid progenitor cells. It transports iron into the cells. The serum concentration of soluble form of the TfR (sTfR) reflects the amount of the cellular receptor.
sTfR level is elevated in iron deficiency, but not in anemia associated with chronic disease. sTfR level is reduced in hypoplastic erythropoiesis (e.g. anemia of chronic disease (ACD), chronic renal failure, aplastic anemia or post-transplant anemia). Therefore, measurement of sTfR is particularly useful to differentiate iron deficient individuals from anemic individuals with chronic disease.

Clinical Application:

  • Iron deficiency
  • Differential diagnosis of anemia

The advantage of the analyte sTfR is that the levels are not affected by an acute phase reaction.
